Tamil Youth Organization (TYO) is a private non-governmental organization and registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in the municipality of Tamil in the state of Yap, Micronesia. We began in May 2011 in an effort to assist our municipality with beautification, athletics participation, youth organization & coordination, and overall health and happiness of the youth in Tamil and greater Yap.

Since 2011, we have grown and developed with the intention of improving access to opportunities for the youth of Tamil. From organizing summer camps emphasizing reducing substance abuse to health fairs focusing on living sustainably with our natural resources, we aim to tackle any and all issues concerning the youth of our beloved island.

Our organization is comprised of a board with five members: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and President. Additionally, we have many other members who provide valuable input.

We are an entirely volunteer based organization, and work for our municipality out of pure love and passion for its betterment. All the youth are honorary members and anyone is welcome to join one of our weekly Tuesday meetings. Together, we organize our spending, discuss plans, and create new opportunities for Tamil.

Our goals are to:

  • create new & exciting opportunities for youth in our community

  • provide sustainable and enjoyable activities

  • assist in the development of artistic, athletic, and other personal skills and talents

  • strengthen & maintain cultural values

  • boost self-esteem & encourage individual expression

  • make connections between community members
