Summer Survival Camp
For three years, TYO has hosted a summer camp for residents of Tamil under the age of twenty. At camp, participants set up their own tents, cook their own food, and participate in a variety of team building activities like obstacle courses and scavenger hunts.
Not only does camp teach cooperation & survival skills, it also emphasizes the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs. Yap has a very high rate of alcohol consumption, and Tamil is no exception. Based on surveys of Tamil's youth, we know underage drinking to be an issue.
TYO has made it one of our primary goals to provide alternative activities and substance abuse prevention education in an effort to minimize the harmful effects in our community.
2019 Summer Survival Camp
It was held on August 02, 03 & 04, 2019 @ the Tamilang Cafeteria Facility with 16 youth participants.
